Open Positions: Research Investigator, Neurodegeneration Biomarkers

Arvinas is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing new small molecules ‒ known as PROTAC® (PROteolysis Targeting Chimera) protein degraders ‒ aimed at degrading disease-causing cellular proteins via proteolysis. Based on innovative research conducted at Yale University by Dr. Craig Crews, Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor, the company is translating natural protein degradation approaches into novel drugs for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. Our proprietary PROTAC®-based drug paradigm induces protein degradation, rather than protein inhibition, using the ubiquitin proteasome system and offers the advantage of potentially targeting “undruggable” as well as “druggable” elements of the proteome. This greatly expands the ability to create drugs for many new, previously unapproachable targets. For more information, visit www.arvinas.com.

Position Summary

As one of the key hires for the company, you will work in close collaboration with leaders and scientists to ensure progression of PROTACs in neurologic disorders. This highly motivated individual with a background in neurodegeneration and expertise in assay development and validation will be responsible for the identification and development of translational biomarkers to support our neurology portfolio. Your efforts will be essential for demonstrating target engagement and establishing PK-PD and will play a critical role in lead optimization, development candidate identification and evaluation of pharmacodynamic response in clinical studies.

This position will be located at our headquarters in New Haven, CT.

Principal Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, develop and validate assays to measure target engagement and confirm PROTAC-induced degradation of pathologic protein aggregates in preclinical models and early clinical studies.
  • Function as biomarker subject matter expert and provide input on how to leverage CSF, imaging and functional biomarkers to contribute to translational research plans for clinical studies.
  • Provide assay support to facilitate chemistry efforts in developing structure-activity relationships that guide lead identification, optimization & development candidate selection.
  • Work closely with the in vivo team and DMPK to build exposure and pharmacodynamic relationships in preclinical models to drive human dose projections.
  • Lead and participate on cross-disciplinary, drug discovery project teams; integrate and evaluate the work of multiple drug discovery functions to determine optimal solutions to discovery challenges.
  • Educate, support, coach, mentor, motivate, and grow scientists in either a supervisory or matrix leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including oral presentation and writing capabilities, that can easily be applied to data summaries for regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable expertise in all areas listed as key responsibilities of the role
  • Innovative, creative, inquisitive, motivated researcher with strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to advance new scientific understanding
  • Experience in the ubiquitin-proteasome system, or targeted protein degradation, a plus
  • Ability to effectively prioritize efforts, manage time, and balance work between bench and desk is critical for success in this role.
  • Ph.D., with 5+ years of post-doctoral experience in cellular and molecular biology, neurobiology, pharmacology or enzymology. Focus on neurobiology and drug discovery preferred with strong publication record.

Education

  • Ph.D., with 5+ years of post-doctoral experience in cellular and molecular biology, neurobiology, pharmacology or enzymology. Focus on neurobiology and drug discovery preferred with strong publication record.
